How has MASH been supporting sex workers during the pandemic?

Despite lock-down, women continue working, and therefore MASH continues to deliver our vital frontline services at a time when the women we support need us most.

June 2, 2021

The Coronavirus has impacted each and every one of us but the pandemic has disproportionately affected sex workers.

Though government guidance has presented huge challenges in how we do our work whilst ensuring our colleagues are protected, we have always remained committed to continuing our support to help women stay safer and healthier.

In the first weeks of lockdown, MASH supported 173 individual women including helping 26 women to access emergency accommodation.

“I can honestly say hand on heart I was in such a bad way, I don’t think that I could have carried on. So from my heart thanks to you I genuinely believe you’ve actually saved my life.”

We are MASH

For 30 years, MASH has stood by women who are sex working or thinking about it, offering non-judgemental support to improve health, safety and wellbeing.

We take MASH to women where they are at, offering support from our drop-in centre, our MASH van, in Manchester city centre, in saunas and via phone calls and home visits.

Women tell us that MASH helps them to feel safer, listened to, empowered and that in many cases it is a ‘lifeline’.
