September 2024 Highlights

September 30, 2024

We are in the last third of 2024 now. We cannot believe it has gone by so quickly!

This month we have another group of volunteers we would like to highlight.

Sophie is an amazing outreach volunteer who has done both city centre shifts and supporting in Oldham, Rochdale and Bury.

She is so committed to MASH and has given over 30 hours of her time this year.

Sophie is great with our service users. Her kindness and empathy led to a service user getting on the van for the first time. She is a welcoming presence on the van and has formed great relationships with both staff and the women.

Sophia is a former student on placement who has become a crucial volunteer and asset to our MASH team.

Sophia used to do both the outreach and the drop-in, now sticking to Monday Drop-ins when she can.

Sophia is an amazing person and volunteer. She is so reliable and has given over 40 hours of her time so far this year. Like many of our volunteers, she is a previous student on placement who has stayed with us. She is caring, compassionate and so engaged with our service users. We are indebted to the time she gives up for MASH. She has even given up her time to supporting us with fundraising events in the past too.

Solomon, Volunteer Coordinator

We also want to spotlight one of our more recent volunteers, Shantelle who has only been with us since April, giving over 20 hours of her time thus far.

Shantelle has become a regular ORB volunteer, supporting women on Fridays. She has done both regular outreach shifts, as well as supporting staff with sexual health screening shifts. She is fabulous and we don’t stop chatting on shifts. She has a great way with the women.

Adele, Senior Healthcare Worker

Finally, we want to highlight the incredible Jen who finished her non-clinical placement as a mental health nurse last month with us.

Jen was incredible on her placement and loved being at MASH that much that she has stayed with us as a volunteer.

Purple banner top left with MASH logo and #VolunteerShoutOut written in white. Quote "Jen finished her non-clinical placement with us, being so proactive, kind and caring" written to the right. Image below of Jen in glasses and hat smiling at camera.

Jen finished her non-clinical placement with us, being so proactive, kind and caring. She did four days a week at drop-in, and just got stuck in straight away. She managed reception, as well as helping out with crafts, and having good-quality in-depth conversations with the women. We were so impressed and all of us on the team are so thrilled she is sticking with us as a volunteer.

Solomon, Volunteer Coordinator

Thank you to the 4 volunteers spotlighted this month but also all of our incredible volunteer team who have given us over 2000 hours of their time so far this year!

We are MASH

For 30 years, MASH has stood by women who are sex working or thinking about it, offering non-judgemental support to improve health, safety and wellbeing.

We take MASH to women where they are at, offering support from our drop-in centre, our MASH van, in Manchester city centre, in saunas and via phone calls and home visits.

Women tell us that MASH helps them to feel safer, listened to, empowered and that in many cases it is a ‘lifeline’.
