Our clinic is based at MASH, 94-96 Fairfield Street – around ten minutes’ walk from Manchester Piccadilly train station.

MASH partners with the NHS but our clinic is run by MASH specifically for women who are sex working.

MASH is a confidential service. People often say it’s a very different experience to mainstream services and that it is friendly, non-judgemental.

Useful info about MASH’s clinic:

  • It’s a ‘one stop shop’ for all things sexual health. We test for all STIs at MASH, common and uncommon
  • We offer: a quick and simple full sexual health screening
  • Preventative measures and advice as well as treatments for anything picked up in your screening
  • Contraception including long acting and emergency contraception (although note that MASH is not a 24/7 service so if you need contraception urgently over a weekend please visit a chemist)
  • A regular smear test clinic
  • Free pregnancy testing and support
  • A Hepatitis testing and treatment clinic
  • PrEP and PEP HIV medications
  • Our clinic is trans inclusive. You are very welcome here. Please send our nurse Jen a text if you’d like to find out more 07980 719155 We also have direct access to the Trans clinic at The Northern Contraception And Sexual Health & HIV Service. Jen can accompany you to appointments if this is something you would find helpful.
  • We always keep informed on national trends e.g. any rises in conditions and act quickly to keep people safe and help to prevent further transmissions

How to use the clinic

The best way to contact the clinic is via text. Messages go directly through to our nurse.  You will usually hear back within three days or sooner. 07980 719155

You can arrange an appointment at a time which suits you. Or, you can book a phone call to speak to Jen with any questions or concerns you might have.

You can also drop in to visit the nurse during MASH’s opening times (Monday – Thursday 3-6pm, Friday 12.30 – 3.30pm) but there may be a wait.

MASH’s nurse is usually available in the clinic on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. You can also contact our nurse Monday – Friday via text.

(These times are subject to change based on annual leave and public holidays etc)

What does the full screening entail?

The screening usually takes about 30 minutes. This includes swabs and a very quick finger prick test which covers HIV, HepB, HepC and syphilis. It may also be necessary to take a blood test.

The nurse will take you through everything beforehand and answer any questions you may have.

You will usually hear back with your results in 10 days or this may be sooner.

Meet Jen – MASH’ Sexual Health Nurse

“Hi, I’m Jen, MASH’s nurse. Although my role is overseen by the NHS, the clinic we offer at MASH is unique and run by us. We have a welcoming, private clinic room and I also visit women where they are at too.

“I’ve been working in sexual health and with sex workers for many years and will do whatever I can to ensure everyone can access the screenings and treatments they need in an easy and stress-free way.

“If you’re unsure about anything, please do text me on 07980 719155. I’m always happy to have a chat first and talk through everything you can expect.

“People often tell me how friendly, welcoming and non-judgemental the MASH clinic is. Music to my ears! I can complete a full screening with you in a matter of minutes.

“Everything can be at your pace and led by you.

“Fun fact about me…when I worked in Styal Prison I had my own radio show called Jen’s Vaginal Dialogues. People seemed to love it! And it was a much better way to share my sexual health education than a wordy leaflet. Once people had heard me chatting away, they felt much more comfortable popping in for testing, advice and treatments.”

What people say about the MASH Clinic

“I cannot stress enough how helpful MASH is to me as a woman-aligned person sex working in Manchester.

“Their STI testing is judgement-free which is amazing because I can ask questions of their lovely nurse that my GP wouldn’t be comfortable speaking to me about.

“They’re trans and non-binary inclusive, relatively fast results AND they give out free condoms, offer needle exchange and more.

“Before I found it I literally drove down to London to get tested.”

We are MASH

For 30 years, MASH has stood by women who are sex working or thinking about it, offering non-judgemental support to improve health, safety and wellbeing.

We take MASH to women where they are at, offering support from our drop-in centre, our MASH van, in Manchester city centre, in saunas and via phone calls and home visits.

Women tell us that MASH helps them to feel safer, listened to, empowered and that in many cases it is a ‘lifeline’.
