International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers

December 16, 2025

Wednesday, 17th December 2025 is International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers (#IDEVASW on social media)

As MASH, we invite you to join sex workers and allies across the globe to mark this significant day, as we remember and mourn every sex worker who has had their life taken away through violence.

It is also crucial to use this day to highlight the continued harm, abuse and violence that sex workers face on a daily basis.

Please join MASH to stand in solidarity with sex workers, for their rights to safety and to live lives free from violence and abuse.

Heart decoration ‘Your Light Shines Bright’

Once again we have teamed up with Our Room, National Ugly Mugs, LGBT Foundation and Manchester City Council for this year’s #IDEVASW

We’ll be chatting to members of the public at our Piccadilly Gardens stall between 12-3pm where you can hear about our support, take action to stand with sex workers and maybe even take away a lovingly put together gift bag.

Community Poem for IDEVASW

This following poem was written collaboratively by women at MASH to mark International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers.

Women spent time reminiscing about friends and loved ones they have heartbreakingly lost, bringing together memories of those people to create this powerful poem. We invite you to listen to and read the poem as we mourn and remember those we have lost through violence.

We remember

We remember your beautiful smile, always kind and caring
We remember your wicked sense of humour, your love of fashion
We remember your larger than life personality, you made everyone laugh and looked out for us all
We remember your long legs, your love of music, dancing in the drop in

We remember that despite your cheeky observations, you were universally loved, Dressed to the nines in five finger discounts, you lit up any space
We remember your resilience, a true fighter, finding hope in the darkest of times

It was an honour to know you
We remember how much you did for others, you would help anyone
The bright blue sari to match your eyes, given to say thanks for your kindness
We remember your dream of getting rollerskates and raising money for mental health charities as the “bipolar roller”

We remember your hilarious turn of phrase, your rockstar aura,
A true legend, you never cared what anyone thought
We remember your quick wit and love of animals, your unfaltering desire to protect
We remember your artistic talents and great taste in music, not forgetting your beautiful hair
We remember your light, it shone bright like a star
Your spark always visible, seen from a far

Every woman taken too soon
You are remembered
Now we stand together, in sunshine or rain
Until no more women face the same

We are MASH

For 30 years, MASH has stood by women who are sex working or thinking about it, offering non-judgemental support to improve health, safety and wellbeing.

We take MASH to women where they are at, offering support from our drop-in centre, our MASH van, in Manchester city centre, in saunas and via phone calls and home visits.

Women tell us that MASH helps them to feel safer, listened to, empowered and that in many cases it is a ‘lifeline’.
