Sarah’s story

How a hot drink from the MASH van saved my life

September 14, 2021

I’m Sarah. Well that’s the name I used to use in another life – when I used to flag down the MASH van.

A while ago I contacted MASH to say a belated thank you for everything they did for me in years gone by. It was amazing to connect with the team again and I ended up sharing some of my story and experiences.

Some talented volunteers from Firecask have now turned my story into a short animation and I’m really proud to share this with you today on Sex Worker Pride day.

I haven’t always felt proud, as you’ll see in my film, but I can say that now I do.

Please watch and share with people you know. Sharing sex workers’ stories and voices is so important when we’re very often unheard.

I’d love to hear what you think as well. Tag MASH on social media or reply to this email and your messages will get to me.

Thank you for reading and watching. It’s humbling to know there are so many people out there who care.

We are MASH

For 30 years, MASH has stood by women who are sex working or thinking about it, offering non-judgemental support to improve health, safety and wellbeing.

We take MASH to women where they are at, offering support from our drop-in centre, our MASH van, in Manchester city centre, in saunas and via phone calls and home visits.

Women tell us that MASH helps them to feel safer, listened to, empowered and that in many cases it is a ‘lifeline’.
