Blog by Annie Emery, CEO at MASH
I had this message a couple of days ago from my colleague who works on the Greater Manchester Housing First pilot. I’d like to share it with you too. She said;
“My job isn’t half bad! One of my women has been having a really tough time in her life including a very sudden loss. So today was treat day. Every day her strength amazes me. Today she thanked me for making her feel “normal” and not a homeless person.”
It reminded me how impactful even the ‘smallest’ things can be for women and how our unique approach here at MASH is needed now more than ever.
We became official partners of Housing First last year, offering our specialist support to women who are experiencing homelessness and other challenges including mental ill health, trauma and addictions, to move into a safe, secure home.
Once settled in, we work with other partners to offer support tailored to each woman so they can move forward in life in whatever way they aspire to. Our MASH workers take the time to build that trust up with women and get to know them. This is just a tiny example of how they do that.
